Synopsis

The movie starts with a TV ad for a company called Stratton Oakmont, Inc. It’s about Wall Street brokers, describing them as strong and powerful like bulls or lions. We see a lion walking through the company’s floor.

Then we meet Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. He introduces himself as a guy who comes from a regular family, with both his parents working as accountants in Queens. But ever since he started working on Wall Street, his life has been filled with drugs and partying. We see him doing cocaine with a prostitute and flying a helicopter while high on drugs. He also drives a fancy car and gets intimate with his wife in it. Jordan admits to doing a lot of drugs, but the one he loves the most is money. He snorts cocaine with a $100 bill and throws it away like it’s nothing.

When Jordan was 22, he started working as a broker on Wall Street. He meets his bosses, Mark Hanna and Peter DeBlasio. Mark is a smooth talker and teaches Jordan the ropes of the business. He tells Jordan about the crazy lifestyle of brokers and how they’re in it for the money, drugs, and hookers. They even do a chant together called the “Money Chant.”

On Jordan’s first day as a licensed broker, a major stock market crash called Black Monday happens, and he loses his job. He and his wife Teresa struggle financially, and they even consider pawning her engagement ring. Jordan eventually finds a job at a small investment firm called Investor Center. The office is not very professional, and the brokers dress casually. Jordan impresses everyone with his sales pitch for a small company called Aerotyne, and he makes a successful sale.

Jordan recruits his friends and colleagues to work for him. They start making high-pressure sales calls and become very successful. Stratton Oakmont grows into a big and powerful brokerage firm, with Jordan as its leader. They celebrate every successful sale with parties, drugs, and even a marching band.

News of Stratton Oakmont’s success spreads, attracting both young brokers and the attention of the FBI. Agent Patrick Denham starts investigating Jordan and his company. Jordan doesn’t care about the negative press; he only cares about making more money than anyone can imagine. He hides his money in offshore accounts to avoid taxes and theft.

Jordan gets married to Naomi and they have a daughter. However, their relationship becomes strained due to Jordan’s reckless behavior. He has affairs, and they constantly argue. Jordan even videotapes Naomi without her knowledge, using it as a way to control her.
